Isolating the Stagnant Column from the Sampler Inlet.
The Easy Pump is based on the following idea: If you place a sampler in the screen segment of a well and isolate the column above the device from the column below, you can purge the inside of the sampler by moving fresh water through the device to the column above; then capture a sample without moving any purge water out of the well.
The Easy Pump system accomplishes this with two components: A disposable double check valve sampler with a unique built-in bladder device and a small submersible pump which inserts into the top of the sampler device.
Eliminating Cross Contamination.
Since the sampler is designed as a single use device, it also eliminates the risk of cross contamination and contaminant build up.
The Easy Pump™ Sampler features a built-in bladder which, during insertion, is in a deflated condition (1 in the illustration below). When the pump is activated, the bladder inflates (2) which isolates the stagnant column above from the inlet of the sampler.
The Easy Pump direct purge and sample system consists of a single-use, disposable double check valve sampler, a reusable, 12 volt submersible pump, reel system and 4.5 amp-hour controller/power supply. The reel is easily removed from the frame to facilitate dedicating a reel/pump combination to a well.
During insertion into the well, the bladder is in a deflated condition. Once the desired depth has been reached, the pump is activated which fills the bladder with water to isolate the stagnant segment of the well column from the screen segment and pulls water through the sampler from the well screen segment to purge the inside of the sample containment area and capture the sample.
This unique feature eliminates the possibility of add-mixing the stagnant and fresh water in the well which allows you to move purge water up in the column away from the sample without having to retrieve and dispose of it top side.
